Sonny Dixon keynotes Chamber's 55th Meeting

    Speaking with all the aplomb of a true Toastmaster, regaled attendees with tales of family, history and genealogy at Thursday’s 55th Annual Meeting of Metter-Candler Chamber of Commerce.
    “I am so proud that this city that I love so much has such low standards,” quipped Dixon as he announced that he had spoken at the banquet four years prior.
    He spoke of his ancestor, James R. Dixon, who was a mayor of Metter in the early 1900s and lived in the home on North Broad that later served as the city’s hospital.
    “He was a visionary, a believer, a businessman,” Dixon said.
    “It’s easy to do well when times are good,” he continued. “It’s tough when times are hard.”
    He challenged the community to come together during those hard times and to stand firm against naysayers.....

Pinkston is sentenced for drug trafficking

    Julius Pinkston, 62, of Metter was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Tuesday, Jan. 17, by Senior United States District Court Judge B. Avant Edenfield for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring. 

Norton, Collins are DEA STARS

    Thomas Norton of Metter has been named STAR Student at David Emanuel Academy. He selected science teacher Karen Collins as STAR Teacher.
    Thomas, who has been attending DEA since 7th grade, is the son of Thom and Michelle Norton of Metter and has a younger sister, Kate, who is in 6th grade at DEA.
