Jerri Goodman is the Associate Editor of The Metter Advertiser. She and her husband, John, have three children, Trevin (16), Aaron (14) and Johnna (8). All three children attend David Emanuel Academy where John is on the Board of Directors and Jerri is active with school functions. Both John and Jerri are youth directors and event coordinators at Metter Free Will Baptist Church, where she is also church pianist. Jerri is also a member of the Another Bloomin’ Festival Steering Committee.

'Thank you' is a start

Saturday, Aug. 14, arrived with little fanfare. A typical day off of work with a good game plan for getting housework done that morning and then settling back with the hubby and the kids later that afternoon.

Local districts bear school costs

With a new school year now beginning, and hard financial decisions being made at all levels of government, I find that this commentary is one we should all read and consider. The commentary, written by Jeannie M. ‘Sis’ Henry, executive director of the Georgia School Boards Association and James Pope, GSBA president and president of the Carrollton School Board, may help us gain perspective when considering the difficult task our local board of education faces in trying to educate our community’s children with an ever-dwindling supply of financial resources.

Not too long ago, my family bought John a Def Leppard anthology album. The boys (at age 16 and 15) were particularly excited because “we just love that classic metal rock.”
