The Metter High varsity Lady Tigers have had a hard time picking up steam this season, going 1-9 in basketball action in December and January. The record does not reflect the determination of the girls, however, as several of their losses were within mere points of their opponents.
The Lady Tigers’ lone win came on Jan. 12 in a region match-up against Portal, 40-29.
On Friday, the Tigers dropped a 50-48 decision to region foe Screven County.
Metter opened the game with a 12-8 lead by the end of the 1st; however, Screven took the lead in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers tied things up in the third, 30-30, and then kept pace with the Gamecocks in the fourth quarter before losing in overtime.
Against region opponent Portal on Jan. 19, Metter again was within two points of a victory as the Lady Panthers won 37-35.
In a non-region affair, Dodge County won a decisive 60-35 match over Metter on Jan. 16. Dodge Co. opened the game with a strong 25-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Metter lost 45-17 to region opponent Claxton on Jan. 15. On Jan. 9, region foe ECI came to Metter and went away with a 55-31 win. This was a day after Metter lost a region match-up to Jenkins Co., 38-31.
Region opponent Bryan County won 35-19 over Metter on Dec. 15., while region foe Screven County won 38-31 over Metter on Dec. 8, and Claxton won 49-23 over Metter on Dec. 3.
