Dear Editor:

What is the Real Deal? This is the season of gift-giving and fundraising. It is the time of the year when people are helping each other by giving their time, money and energy to charities and many organizations.

I left Governor Nathan Deal with a handshake and a smile of encouragement that communities have always been and still are committed to helping each other.

As a certificate of authenticity exchanged hands, a volunteer veteran raised the United States Flag at the State Capitol in honor of a special occasion.

We, too, should take a little time to help raise funds for these special occasions. Now is the time to search and find these fundraisers, charities and groups that are working long hours to meet their needs and goals. Maybe you will not only purchase that unique Christmas gift at your community auction fundraiser, but possibly that one-of-a-kind treasure that can be passed down to the next generation.

That is the real deal.

Happy Thanksgiving, Candler County.
