Mae Helen Wilcher Johnson was born December 29, 1948 in Candler County, Metter, Georgia to the late parents of Everson and Lear Wilcher. Mae Helen received her formal education at Candler County Training School, Metter, Georgia. Mae Helen, her parents, sister and five brothers lived on a farm in a small town named Pulaski, Georgia. Mae Helen became united to her husband, Rufus Melvin Johnson and to this union two children were born.

 She was a former employee as a custodian worker with Concerted Services in Metter. Mae Helen was very outgoing, and she met you with a smile and a big hug. She was very close to her first cousin, Clara Mae Wilcher Walker.

 Mae Helen Wilcher Johnson joined the Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. In later years Mae Helen moved to Bronx, New York to live with her sister, Myrtle Lou Wilcher Washington until her passing May 2, 2020. She was very kind, and when she went away to live in the state of New York, she was missed. After the move to New York, her sister Myrtle Lou passed away, then Myrtle Lou’s son and his cousin became Mae Helen’s caretakers.

 Mae Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle Lou Wilcher Washington, Brothers; Lonnie Ray Wilcher, Eddie Lewis Wilcher; Herman Wilcher, Charlie B. Wilcher, and Jessie Lee Wilcher.

 She leaves behind a brother, Mandrus Wilcher (Dorothy) of Hobe Sound, Florida; and her husband, Rufus Melvin Johnson. Mae Helen really cherished her children, Michele Denise Wilcher Green (Anthony), Jeffery Benard Johnson (Jauna); grandchildren, Caleb Bradon Green, Sharrod Johnson, Tyia and Curtis; great-grand children, Nyla and Quincy. She leaves several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

 Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Dixon Grove Church Road Cemetery. Presiding is Minister Shaunta Ellis; and officiating is Rev. Charles Weaver Sr.
