A routine accident investigation led to two arrests for trafficking methamphetamine on.

According to police reports, Garett Hastings Butts and Hazel Michelle Royal were arrested after the 1998 Chevy Blazer they were riding in drove into a ditch at MLK Blvd. and Highway 46 East on Friday evening.

“The two individuals were real nervous acting and were in a hurry to get their truck out of the ditch,” said Police Chief Mack Seckinger. 

The K-9 unit was called to the scene and indicated the presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle yielded over 80 grams of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $7,000 to $9,000, according to Seckinger.

The Tri Circuit Drug Task Force has been called to assist with the investigation.
