A Claxton man has been charged with kidnapping and cruelty to children following a domestic case that started at Minute Mart #2 in Candler County.

According to Sheriff’s reports, deputies were dispatched to the convenience store, located at 55622 Hwy. 46 E., around 2:30 p.m. on Monday after a witness reported seeing a male force a female into a vehicle.

The concerned citizen followed the vehicle while informing 911.

The subjects were located in Evans County on Hwy. 169 after an extensive search of the area.

It was determined that during a domestic dispute, a female was forced into a vehicle at Minute Mart #2 and driven away against her will. Three small children were present during the incident.

Following the investigation, Tamir Rayshawn Furman, 19, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and three counts cruelty to children.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Candler County,” said Sheriff John Miles. “Domestic violence can have very serious impacts on those involved, especially when children are watching it unfold.”

Candler County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Evans County Sheriff’s Office, Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and Bulloch 911.

Miles also expressed appreciation to the concerned citizen who observed the crime, called 911 and led deputies to locating the offender and victims.

“This crime could have gone unreported and unsolved otherwise,” Miles said. “We simply cannot operate effectively without our citizens helping us along the way.”
