Metter High’s 2020 Prom, which had been scheduled in July, was officially canceled last week.
“Prom is just not an option right now due to a number of circumstances that are outside of the control of the school system,” said MHS Principal Ellis Strobridge.
“MHS staff and parents have invested a significant amount of energy into planning a great event, and we are highly disappointed that we will be unable to have a prom this year.”
Prom funds raised, in part by fundraisers and junior prom fees, remain in a specified prom account.
“Meetings will be held with those involved in the fundraising as to how to best disburse those funds for students’ benefit,” Strobridge said.
While the prom was canceled, Strobridge announced that plans are still underway for the 2020 graduation, scheduled for Friday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m.
