For their outstanding achievements in the 2020-21 school year, the Metter High School athletic program has received the prestigious Region’s Bank Director’s Cup for 2021 Region 3A-Public. The award is sponsored by the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association.

The award is based on a point system, with points assigned for each sport based on their performance in the season. The MHS boys’ teams that advanced to the state playoffs placed second overall in the state in Class A Director’s Cup, while the girls’ teams that advanced to the state playoffs played 17th.

The Metter boys scored 461 points, placing second in the state to Commerce, which scored 608. Metter’s points were as follows: Baseball, 100; boys’ golf, 90; football, 83; boys’ track, 57; boys’ tennis, 53; boys’ cross country, 28; boys’ basketball, 25 and boys’ soccer, 25.

For the girls’ 207 points, the leading sport was girls’ golf, 75, followed by girls’ track, 69; girls’ cross country, 38 and girls’ tennis 25.

“I am very proud of each team that advanced to the state playoffs,” said MHS Athletic Director Vicki Bowen. “Metter High School was represented by an excellent group of players and coaches. The players worked very hard to make the state playoffs, and it’s so rewarding to see the diversity of sports represented. What an honor for Metter High School.”
