A community comes together to share Christmas cheer

Santa enlisted the aid of some unusual elves to help spread Christmas cheer to Candler County children. The mission, established by Candler County Sheriff’s Office, was called Operation Bike Drop. In the first year of this campaign, local families purchased bicycles and businesses and individuals donated money to help purchase bikes and helmets -- enough to ensure that more than 80 children had an extra special Christmas this year. The bikes were delivered on Dec. 17. Due to the success of the campaign, Sheriff John Miles said that he hopes for this to become an annual event.  Pictured: Sheriff Miles and Captain Justin Wells prepare to deliver bikes.
