Santa Claus arrived in town on Thursday evening to a lot of fanfare and an enthusiastic crowd! While much of the annual Christmas celebration in Metter was scaled back this year due to the Covid pandemic, the enthusiasm of the audience was as strong as ever.

Folks donned their favorite pajamas in a revival of Metter’s old-fashioned Pajamarama as they watched the parade, visited with downtown merchants and viewed the lights in Metter’s park area.

“It was a great evening,” said Victoria Gaitten, executive director of Metter-Candler Chamber of Commerce. “It was so nice to see everyone downtown enjoying themselves.”

Gaitten expressed her appreciation to City of Metter streets and lanes crews for making the downtown parks so cheerful and welcoming.

“I also want to thank Gary Jarrell for all of his work in arranging for Santa Claus’s visit to Metter,” she said. Special thanks were also given to Metter Fire-Rescue, Candler County Sheriff’s Office, VFW Post 5893 and the Studio South Dancers.

And congratulations to IHS Pharmacy & Gifts, winners of the 2020 Chili Contest.
