Bond denied for murder suspect

Juan Dwayne Johnson

Superior Court Judge Robert S. Reeves denied bond for murder suspect Juan Dwayne Johnson, 23, who surrendered himself to Candler County deputies on June 27 following the death of Willie Cheley Jr. on June 18.

Johnson was believed to have fled the scene in a 2007 gray Honda Accord. The vehicle was stolen shortly after the murder in close proximity to the incident and was reported as recovered in Candler County on June 23.

Cheley was found June 18 on North Trapnell Street around 9:30 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Candler County Hospital where he later died.

After the incident, Metter Police asked GBI to investigate. During the investigation, agents learned that there had been a domestic dispute prior to the shooting. Details of that dispute had not been made public as of press time.

Johnson was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
