Wicked fun at the Witches Night Out

A fountain turned pink ... pumpkins got painted ... and shoppers found bargains galore during Thursday evening’s Witches Night Out and Pink-Out the Fountain events in downtown Metter.

The celebration of all things Fall and the tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month began at the fountain in the Billy Trapnell Park. Here, breast cancer survivors were given cups of pink dye by event host Zeta Tau Alpha Statesboro Alumnae Chapter to “Pink Out the Fountain,” which will remain pink throughout the month.

Then youngsters rushed to pick out pumpkins at Metter Farm Market’s Pumpkin Patch in the park. Using supplies available at the Candler County 4-H booth, youngsters turned the orange pumpkins into colorful artistic designs.

Then it was time to shop. A number of downtown businesses, including Scoops, Burlap & Lace, Martha’s & More, Vickie’s Antiques, Mimi Makes Cakes and Canoochee Creek offered extended hours. Shoppers also found great deals in the Pop-up Shop, where multiple vendors were set up inside the old Tom’s Pawn City location.

Also in the Pop-up Shop area was Melissa Spears of Headquarters who weaved feathers into hair, giving customers a new look for this fun celebration.

“We had such a big crowd,” said Victoria Gaitten, executive director of Metter-Candler Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the Witches Night Out event. “We want to thank our businesses for staying open later and making the night such a wonderful success.”

Shoppers were encouraged to enter their receipts for a drawing of a large basket containing merchant items. The basket was won by Wendy Bird.

Chamber Investors who helped sponsor the event included Pineland Telephone, Pineland Bank, Metter Ford, Metter Home Center, Burlap & Lace, Pawsitive K9 Connections, Metter Bank, Queensborough, Amit Mart #3, Dutch Ford Farm, Linzer, Bevricks, Excelsior EMC, Little Caesars, Candler County Hospital, Georgia Power, State Farm/David Hooks, Tom’s Pawn Center, Ace Hardware, IHS Pharmacy & Gifts, D & S Electric, Better Fresh Farms, CPE America, Davis Heating & Air, Synovus, DR Grocery, H & H Timber, HD Drayage & Container, The Warehouse, Hulsey, Tootle & Harrison, Jay’s Fuel Stop, Jomax BBQ, Wood Funeral Home, Metter Main Street & DDA, Olliff & Fordham and Randy’s Wrecker & Service.
