Norberto Giovanie Acevedo was sentenced in Superior Court this month to 15 years in prison for criminal attempt to commit murder and arson in the 1st degree.
Acevedo was arrested on September 1, 2019, after deputies arrived at a Stockinghead Road residence at 2:30 a.m. to find the residence ablaze with multiple fires throughout.
Deputies were told that Acevedo, who was 32 at the time, had assaulted his mother, lit the house on fire and pushed her into the fire. She was transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta for treatment.
In addition to 15 years confinement, Acevedo was sentenced to 35 years probation.
Also sentenced in Superior Court was Steven Wayne Collins who was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving without a license, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle with an invalid license.
He was sentenced to five years or probation.
Marion Anita Smith was also charged to five years probation for fleeing/attempting to elude police officer, obstruction of an officer and reckless driving.
