Although the forecast calls for summer temperatures well into the 90s, fall will definitely be in the air as the community gathers for the 2019 Harvest Arts Festival scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday.
Metter Farm Market will have a pumpkin patch and the park will be filled with arts and crafts vendors, including Paws, Hearts & Hands of Candler County; The Bees Knees; Emma’s Closet; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Mystic Mosaic Guitars; Radiant Stitches; Air Evac Lifeteam; Southern Soy Candle; G7 Custom Arts; Family Affairs; The Soap Batch; East Georgia Healthcare Center; and Blessing Times 3.
Highlights of the day will be the popular tractor display as well as the petting zoo.
Live music will fill the park with performances from Straight from the Heart Bluegrass Band and Grace McBride and others.
The aroma of festival food will be wafting from Larry Hobbs’ BBQ booth and the FFA booth, where hotdogs and hamburgers will be sold.
A highlight of the event will be art activities, including face painting, air dry clay, bubble art, flower art, chalk art, tree art gallery, paint-a-pumpkin and more. Youngsters will also enjoy a bowling alley created with hay bales, water beads in a kiddie pool and a hay bale maze.
This year’s event on Sept. 28 will include a fun new way for Chamber of Commerce members to promote their business, a “Scarecrow Stroll.” Already, 11 businesses have signed up to have their decorated scarecrows in the downtown park, ready for public voting.
Businesses that have registered with the chamber were assigned a lamp post in the Trapnell Park at which to decorate their scarecrows. Voting will take place during the Festival.
The annual Harvest Arts Festival is sponsored jointly by Metter-Candler Chamber of Commerce, Candler County Young Farmers and the Candler County Arts Council.
