Shortly after noon on Friday, Candler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic incident on Bass Road.
According to Sheriff’s reports, “It was reported that a person shot a firearm during the incident and went into the woods. Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol personnel began searching the area for a subject. A gunshot was heard by law enforcement in the woods during the search.”
Sheriff John Miles called for air support from Georgia State Patrol and a tactical team from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office. During an extensive ground search, the subject was found deceased.
The case is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Candler County Coroner’s Office.
Assisting with the investigation were Georgia State Patrol; Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office; the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and K9; Georgia Department of Natural Resources; Candler County Emergency Management Agency and Candler County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Joe Carter’s office reported that the individual was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office, Coastal Region, for an autopsy. “The official manner of death is pending a report of the medical examiner’s office,” Carter reported.
