Car fire -- captured on camera by a reader

Pineland State Bank's Bryan Aasheim captured images of this car fire around lunchtime on Tuesday afternoon. The fire occurred at the Marathon on Hwy. 23 just south of I-16 when a Crown Victoria caught fire that erupted into a full blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown, although mechanical issues were reported, according to Fire Chief Jason Douglas. The heat of the blaze, Douglas said, actually began melting the side of the Marathon convenience store.

This was one of three vehicle fires that Metter Fire-Rescue had to respond to, Douglas said. Another car fire occurred on the interstate and a third fire involved a cotton picker on Salem Road. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
