Lady Eagles win State!

The David Emanuel Academy Lady Eagles won the 2021 GAPPS State Softball Championship this weekend after soundly defeating Central Fellowship Christian Academy in a best-of-three series played in Stillmore.

The girls defeated Central Fellowship by a score of 15-2 in Game One and 10-4 in Game 2.

In the first game, Jaylin Hall and Bree Wimberly each had three hits and four RBIs. Hall had two home runs for the day.

Alana Tant, Kyli Bell and Emma Proctor were each 2-3 and Maddie Perkins was 2-2 ith an RBI. Eighth-grader Henzli Hall was 3-3 with 1 RBI.

Kyli Bell pitched all five innings, giving up only five hits and had two strikeouts.

In the second game, Kyli Bell was again on the mound, pitching all seven innings and striking out five.

Emma Proctor and Jaylin Hall were each 3-4, with Proctor having 3 RBIs and Hall batting in two. Kyli Bell was 2-3, and Sara Jo Perkins had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

“I am so proud of how far these girls have come this year,” said Head Coach Laura Cardell Webb.

“The beginning of the year was a little rocky, but over the last month, their bats came alive and they started playing like the DEA softball team I knew they were. We only have two seniors and one junior and they were a big influence in these last games. They had been here before and stepped up in a big way to help lead us to this Championship. Our younger girls also stepped up bit time, especially with their bats,” she said.

The girls reached the playoffs after defeating Covenant Academy the week prior in the first round of playoffs, also a best-of-three series, by scores of 11-2 and 15-3.

The Lady Eagles end the season with a 13-7 overall record and a playoff record of 4-0.

Webb, a DEA alumnus, is joined in coaching by Gabrielle Story, also an alumnus and former teammate of Webb’s.

“I cannot explain the excitement of getting to win a state championship coaching your alma mater,” Webb said. “It is a moment Gabrielle and I will never forget!”
